moderator Raison Naidoo

.

Responding to the invisibility of contemporary African art in exhibitions and institutions in Paris and over the world at the end of the 1980s, Revue Noire was founded in 1991 to demonstrate that artists and contemporary African art were alive and well.

.

The magazine of contemporary African art further illustrated the history and contribution of African artists in various disciplines – visual artists, filmmakers, writers, musicians, photographers, designers, etc. – to the international arts scene.

.

From East to West, from North to South, the entire African continent is covered, including northern Arabic-speaking countries, the islands of the Indian Ocean from Madagascar to the Seychelles, the Caribbean islands, countries with strong African presence such as Brazil, Canada, and major cities such as London and Paris. Some issues have a transversal approach dealing with disciplines such as photography, dance, cinema, fashion or social events such as urban city, cooking, AIDS…

Following a first roundtable held on May 8, 2019 at the Forum of African Art in the 58th Venice Biennale (see HERE the conversation on YouTube), the Cité Internationale des Arts invites you to this second conversation on Revue Noire, moderated by independent curator and writer Riason Naidoo, in the presence of the 4 editors :
.
• N’Goné Fall, independent curator, art writer and cultural consultant

.

• Simon Njami, writer, independent curator, art critic and essayist

.

• JeanLoup Pivin, architect, cultural consultant and director of RevueNoire
.
• Pascal Martin Saint Leon, architect and artistic director of Revue Noire
.
Riason Naidoo (South Africa) is a recipient of the Writing Committee of the Cité Internationale des Arts.
